Break Dance

Brad, Lauren Eloise woods

Break Dance

Learn breaking with our passionate instructors! Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this class caters to all ages and abilities, if your child prefers less structured classes, this class is for you, breaking training is less about learning routines and more about working one on one on what they want to improve on that week. Here’s what we teach you:

  1. Top Rocks: Begin your dance journey with top rocks. These are footwork sequences performed while standing. Top rocks set the tone for your breaking session and allow you to connect with the music and the cypher.
  2. Footwork: Intricate footwork patterns close to the ground. Footwork is the heart of breaking, where you’ll create sequences using your feet using glides, twists, and transitions.
  3. Power Moves: Power moves are explosive and acrobatic manoeuvres that demand strength and agility. Think windmills, flares, and head spins. Our instructors will guide you in mastering these techniques.
  4. Freezes: Freezes are dramatic poses that punctuate your breaking routine. They showcase balance, creativity, and control. From handstands to shoulder freezes, you’ll learn to strike eye-catching positions.
  5. Cypher: Step into the cypher—a circular space where breakers gather to dance. Feel the energy as you take turns showcasing your skills. Cyphers are spontaneous, dynamic, and a true reflection of the breaking culture.
  6. Biting and Originality: In breaking, “biting” refers to copying someone else’s moves or style. We encourage originality—develop your unique style and signature moves. Be inspired by others but make it your own!

Fun Fact: Breaking is one of the four elements of hip-hop culture, born in the streets of the Bronx in the '70s. It’s all about acrobatic moves, spins, and creativity

Freestyle Training

Brad

Freestyle Training

Have you ever been told to freestyle and felt lost? You’re not alone. The misconception that freestyle is something you just “do” has left many feeling discouraged. But fear not—we’re here to demystify freestyling and teach you!

Why Freestyle Matters:

Hip-Hop's origin wasn’t always learning routines in the studio, that’s now part of it, but an even bigger part of the style requires dancers to be able to feel the music and show their authentic self.

  • Better Results In Competitions: Judges expect dancers from intermediate and up to freestyle and the best way to win a competition is by freestyling, it’s very easy for them to spot a dancer who is freestyling and who is doing a routine and who is listening and responding to the random song that was put on for the round.
  • Breaking the “Just Do It” Myth: The notion that freestyle is a magical switch you flip is not true. There’s more to it and lots of ways we can assist your journey in this and make you love it!
  • Our Expertise: As specialists, we understand the nuances. We’ll guide you step by step.

Some Of What You’ll Learn:

  1. The Art of Listening: Freestyle isn’t just about moving—it’s about listening to the music. We’ll teach you to move with intention.
  2. Rhythm/Beats: Learn how to use the beats, hit highlights on the music and listen out for unique music patterns.
  3. Concepts: We will help you find concepts that work for you that give you inspiration as tools to take your freestyle to the next level.
  4. Breaking the Fear Barrier: If you’ve ever felt “unable to freestyle,” we’ll shatter that belief. It’s about growth, not judgment in an encouraging environment
